About this infection

Searchpage.com is a browser hijacker, one that will make changes to your browser and try to redirect you to sponsored content. It’s not a malicious infection so don’t worry about it too much but do make sure you get rid of it sooner rather than later. It can get into your computer without your permission, via freeware bundles.

Searchpage

And once it’s installed, it will make changes to your browser without asking you, and redirect you. Hijackers aim to make income by generating traffic for websites. Especially because some hijackers are able to lead users to malicious content, which could result in a malware infection. Thus, remove Searchpage.com.

How did it install onto my computer?

If you do not recall ever installing it, the hijacker was probably added to some kind of freeware that you installed. Free programs frequently come together with added offers, ones that you need to deselect to avoid. To be able to do this, access Advanced or Custom settings when installing freeware. Those settings will allow you to see whether freeware has something added, and if there is something, you will be able to deselect it/them. Those items will not be visible in Default settings so avoid them. It is much easier to uncheck a couple of boxes than it would be to uninstall Searchpage.com or something similar so consider that when you rush program installations.

Why delete Searchpage.com?

Once the extension is installed, it will attach itself to all popular browsers, such as Internet Explorer, Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox, and change settings. It will set its promoted site as your homepage, new tabs and search engine without permission and not allow you to undo the changes. So you would have to first remove Searchpage.com and then alter settings. Your new homepage will offer a search engine, which we do not recommend you use. It will insert sponsored content into results because that is how hijackers work. They want to redirect you to sponsored websites because more traffic means more income for site owners. Even though hijackers are not malicious infections, they can redirect users to malicious sites, which could lead to a serious malware infection. So if you want to be sure you avoid an infection, uninstall Searchpage.com. We also recommend you read the Privacy Policy to find out whether the hijacker collects your data, how it’s kept and whether it’s shared.
