About this threat

Zepto virus is a ransomware type of malware that will leave your files encrypted if you allow it to infect your computer. If you find that you cannot open your files and they all have the .zepto attachment, we have some bad news for you. Unless you have backup, there is little chance you will get your files back. This is why ransomware is one of the most dangerous kinds of malware out there. And infection is very easy.

zepto virus

All you need to do is open a malicious file attached to a spam email and the malware will encode your files. When that is done, it will ask that you pay a ransom to get files back but we must warn you against doing that. You are dealing with cyber criminals and there are not guarantees they will recover your files after payment has been made. Instead of complying with the demands, you should remove Zepto virus. If you have backup, delete Zepto virus and then recover your files.

How does ransomware enter a computer?

Ransomware developers usually count on spam emails to spread their malware. An infected file is attached to an email and sent out to unsuspecting users. When someone opens it, downloads the file and launches it, the ransomware can begin encrypting your files. You need to stay vigilant when it comes to email attachments, even when it seems they are coming from legitimate companies, like Amazon. Learn to spot malicious emails and always make sure attached files are safe before you open them. If you get infected, you will not only have to remove Zepto virus or similar but will also face the possibility of losing your files.

What does it do?

The ransomware will encrypt your files and add the .zepto file extension to them. This makes it easy for victims to differentiate which ransomware has harmed them. Once the encryption process is complete, your desktop will have a ransom note set as your background. It will inform you of what has happened, that your files have been encrypted with RSA-2048 and AES-128 ciphers. Victims are asked to download and install the Tor browser and then access a certain website. On it, they will be offered to buy a decryption tool. We do not recommend paying for anything or even accessing the website because the chances of you getting your files back are pretty slim. They will probably just take your money and not provide you with a working decryptor. You should invest that money into reliable backup so that you do not end up in this situation again. Delete Zepto virus.

Zepto virus removal

While there are two ways to erase Zepto virus, we recommend only one. Manual Zepto virus removal would be too difficult and you could end up damaging your computer further. Instead, obtain anti-malware and have it eliminate Zepto virus for you.
