Zepto virus – what is it and how to remove it

Zepto virus is a ransomware type of malware that will leave your files encrypted if you allow it to infect your computer. If you find that you cannot open your files and they all have the .zepto attachment, we have some bad news for you. Unless you have backup, there is little chance you will get your files back. This is why ransomware is one of the most dangerous kinds of malware out there. And infection is very easy.

All you need to do is open a malicious file attached to a spam email and the malware will encode your files. How does ransomware enter a computer?

What does it do?

The ransomware will encrypt your files and add the .zepto file extension to them. This makes it easy for victims to differentiate which ransomware has harmed them. It will inform you of what has happened, that your files have been encrypted with RSA-2048 and AES-128 ciphers. Victims are asked to download and install the Tor browser and then access a certain website. On it, they will be offered to buy a decryption tool. We do not recommend paying for anything or even accessing the website because the chances of you getting your files back are pretty slim. They will probably just take your money and not provide you with a working decryptor. You should invest that money into reliable backup so that you do not end up in this situation again. 1. Click on Start and select Shutdown.
2. Choose Restart and click OK.
3. Start tapping F8 when your PC starts loading.
4. Under Advanced Boot Options, choose Safe Mode with Networking.
5. Open your browser and download the anti-malware utility.

1. On the Windows login screen, press the Power button.

4. Choose Command Prompt from the list.
5. Type in cd restore and tap Enter.
6. Type in rstrui.exe and press Enter.
7. Click Next in the new window and select the restore point prior to the infection.
8. Click Next again and click Yes to begin the system restore.

Delete Zepto virus from Windows 8/Windows 10

1. Click the Power button on the Windows login screen.
2. Press and hold Shift and click Restart.
3. Choose Troubleshoot and go to Advanced options.
4. Select Command Prompt and click Restart.
5. In Command Prompt, input cd restore and tap Enter.
6. Type in rstrui.exe and tap Enter again.
7. Click Next in the new System Restore window.
8. Choose the restore point prior to the infection.
9. Click Next and then click Yes to restore your system.
