About these scam pop-ups

DO NOT PRESS ANY KEY Scam pop-ups are either caused by adware, or you were redirected from a questionable website you were on. If the pop-up is constantly appearing, it’s likely the former case. You could have picked up adware when you were installing freeware. If you did not deselect its added offers, they were allowed to install, possibly without you noticing. DO NOT PRESS ANY KEY ScamAdware itself is not the most dangerous infection you could encounter but if you fall for one of its scam pop-ups, it could lead to financial loss. The scam ad will claim that your computer in a blocked state and that you should not press anything until you contact technicians, who you can reach by dialing the provided number. This is a typical tech-support scam, and if you were to call the number provided, you would be connected to professional scammers who would try to get remote access to your computer. They would then do some fancy ‘fix’ and charge you for it. In reality, there is nothing wrong with your computer, besides the adware causing the pop-ups, or if there is an infection completely unrelated to this. If you just delete DO NOT PRESS ANY KEY Scam adware, the pop-ups should stop.

Why are you seeing the warnings?

If you got redirected from some weird website, there is nothing to worry about as it’s probably just a one time thing. However, if you are seeing them regularly or at least a couple of times, adware might be the cause. You could have picked it up when you were installing freeware. It may have been attached in such a way that allowed it to installed alongside. This is referred to as the bundling method. If you want to prevent unwanted installations, you need to pay attention to the process and make sure to uncheck the unwanted programs. Use Advanced (Custom) settings, follow the installation process carefully and read all the information provided. You should deselect all the offers that become visible in Advanced settings because they do not belong on your computer, and will only bring trouble.

The pop-up might be appearing in all browsers you have installed, whether you are using Internet Explorer, Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox. While browsing, you will suddenly get redirected to a weird website and a pop-up warning will appear. In the website, you will see tech-support numbers, and it may seem like the site is the official Microsoft page. The pop-up will claim that your computer has been blocked and that you must urgently call ‘Microsoft Super Technician’. That’s obviously not a real position and no legitimate technicians will call themselves ‘Super Technicians’. You are also warned by the alert to not ignore the warning as it is supposedly a very critical infection. They are not exactly wrong about that. You shouldn’t ignore the pop-up, but not because its warning is legitimate but rather because you need to get rid of the adware causing it. There is no need to call the provided number because you would only be scammed. You would have to deal with professional scammers, who would try to convince you that they need to connect to your computer to fix the issues, and if you allow them access, they will show you the supposed issue and after some tinkering, it will be ‘fixed’. You would then be charged a lot of money, essentially for nothing. All you need to do is remove DO NOT PRESS ANY KEY Scam adware, and the pop-up warnings should stop.
