About this threat

FF Search Informer is a Mozilla Firefox add-on that will bombard your screen with advertisements. It’s classified as adware and a potentially unwanted program (PUP) due to its dubious behaviour and spread methods. It’s advertised as an essential Firefox update, which appears on dubious websites. FF Search Informer

If you install it, you end up with adware. It’s not exactly a malicious program, but the constant ads will get on your nerves pretty quickly, and you’ll want to delete FF Search Informer. And we suggest you do it as soon as possible because while it’s not malicious itself, the ads that it will expose you to could lead to serious malware infections. If you pressed on the wrong ad, you could accidentally download something malicious. Adware is also know to collect information about users in order to make more customised ads, and would you really want some questionable party to have access to information about, however minor it may be. There is no need to put up with an adware infection, so make sure you get rid of it as soon as possible.

How did it enter your computer?

Usually, adware installs along with free programs. However, this particular adware is offered as an essential Firefox update. You get ads offering this ‘update’ when visiting questionable sites, such as free streaming. The ad will claim that you have to install the update for your browser to work properly. It is suggested that you don’t engage with the ad at all. Even if you are given a Cancel option, don’t press on it. Simply close the tab or your browser. And if you did install this supposed update, you need to be more careful in the future. Keep in mind that legitimate updates will never be offered this way. If you need to update your programs, they will let you know via the program itself or do it automatically. And if you ever want to update manually, use official sites as your sources. Not free program download sites, and not ads/pop-ups.

Why remove FF Search Informer?

As soon as the extension installs, you will start seeing advertisements on your screen as you browse. They should stick to Firefox, so others browsers should be okay. However, that does not mean you should just leave Firefox as it is and use another browser. The infection is not going aways on it own, so you need to take action to get rid of it. In the meantime, avoid engaging with ads that you encounter on websites, even safe ones. Whatever the ads are advertising, take it with a grain of salt, or just ignore them in general until you deal with the infection. Certainly don’t reveal your personal information or download programs advertised on pop-ups. You could end up with some kind of serious infection instead of the intended program. As is the case with updates, if you need a program, use legitimate websites.

FF Search Informer removal
