About this hijacker

FreeForms Virus is a questionable extension, also classified as a browser hijacker and a potentially unwanted program (PUP). If you look into this hijacker, you will see that people refer to it as virus. While it may behave like a virus, a more correct term would be either a hijacker or a PUP. However, for the sake of simplicity, we will call it FreeForms Virus in this report. It’s not the most dangerous infection you could encounter but it certainly is annoying. FreeForms Virus

It makes changes to browser’s settings, sets its promoted site as your homepage and tries to redirect you to sponsored websites. While the majority of websites you will be redirected to will be merely aiming to get more revenue, some could be hosting malware, which could download onto your computer as soon as you enter the site. This would be why you should delete FreeForms Virus.

Hijackers also have a tendency to install without permission, via the bundling method. They are attached to freeware as extra offers and need to be deselected in order to prevent their installation. Because the offers are hidden, a lot of users do not deselect anything and don’t even realize they need to.

How do browser hijackers spread?

Browser hijackers are added to freeware as extra offers and can install alongside without you noticing. To make sure you don’t install junk programs onto your device, you need to pay attention to how you install freeware. Download freeware programs only from reliable websites, and read the information provided during installation. When given the option, choose Advanced (Custom) settings instead of Default. Default will keep added offers hidden, while Advanced will make them visible and allow you to deselect them. All you really need to do is uncheck the boxes and may then continue installation as normal.

Should you remove FreeForms Virus?

Whether you keep a program or not is your choice, but you should look into closely before making a decision. Take into account a couple of things, like it installing without permission. In addition, it will set you a new homepage/new tab without permission, and prevent you from reversing these changes. The website will have a search box, and various links to free forms. Offering various features is a tactic a lot of hijackers use, but a lot of those features can be found on legitimate and safe extensions. If you use the search engine, you may encounter a lot of sponsored results. Links to questionable websites would be shown as legitimate results, and you could easily be fooled into clicking on it. Those sites generally aim to make revenue from increased traffic, but some may also be hosting malware. That malware could download onto your device without you even noticing.

Furthermore, hijackers are known to collect information, such as IP address, websites visited, search queries. They also sometimes collect personal information. It may then be shared with unknown third-parties.
