Elara is a Dell app that controls your touchpad. Users using Dell laptops can occasionally encounter the issue of it preventing the computer from shutting down. “Elara App is preventing you from shutdown” is a common message users receive.

Elara app

And because users may not be familiar with what it is, they may become concerned it’s some kind of malware. It’s not a virus, not malware and it’s not malicious, thus there is no need to be worried. You may also encounter it as ApntEx.exe, and notice “Alps Pointing-device Driver for Windows” running. While some may suggest you remove Elara app, if you do, you would end up doing more harm than good. Elara app removal would disrupt the regular functioning of your touchpad.

However, we do recommend you perform a scan of your computer with anti-malware software. Even if Elara app is not a virus, there could still be some kind of malware on your computer. Catching malware is pretty easy so you should perform regular scans of your computer to make sure nothing that shouldn’t be there is present.
