About this infection
Win32:Adware-gen is a heuristic detection that a lot of antivirus programs use and it detects adware. So if your security software is alerting you about this, you probably have adware installed. It’s not a serious infection, more an annoyance than anything, but it’s important that you get rid of it. It will bombard your screen with advertisements and disrupt your browsing all the time. Interacting with its generated ads is not recommended because they are unreliable, and could expose you to malicious content. You could also be encouraged to download a bogus security program or be scammed in a tech-support scam. So even if adware itself is not considered to be malicious, the content it exposes you to can be. Therefore, don’t engage with ads for the time being and delete Win32:Adware-gen.

What does it do?
When you have adware installed, it’s pretty obvious. You will start seeing loads of advertisements in your browser (whether it’s Internet Explorer, Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox), and they will come in various forms, from banners to pop-ups. You could also get redirected. While adware is installed, you should not interact with any ads because they could be dangerous. It could be showing you great deals, which are likely lies to make you click on them. You could encounter ads warning you about some kind of infection on your computer, and that you need to install the promoted tool or call the provided number for tech-support. Remember that such warnings will always be a scam. Your browser is not capable of detecting an infection, no legitimate security program will advertise itself this way, and no company will ask you to call them by showing you fake alerts. So whenever you encounter such pop-ups/redirects, close them.
You may notice that your computer is running slower, and that is probably because of the amount of ads that are appearing. Another thing you should be aware of is that adware tracks users and collect certain kind of information about them. One more reason to uninstall Win32:Adware-gen as soon as possible.
