About Paypal-b Phish

Paypal-b Phish (or HTML:Paypal-B [Phish]) seems to be a false positive, detected by AVG and Avast anti-virus programs. It seems to come up during a scan with those programs, or sometimes when using PayPal. However, despite the fact that it has been reported to be a false positive, we still recommend scanning your device with a different program in order to make sure it’s clean.

Paypal-b Phish

According to various user reports, Paypal-b Phish was detected when using the PayPal website or during the general scan of the computer. In the former case, the AVG or Avast alert would claim that connection to paypal.com was aborted because it was infected with HTML:Paypal-B [Phish]. If you are a regular user of PayPal, HTML:Paypal-B [Phish] could have also been picked up during a regular scan.

The issue of AVG and Avast detecting Paypal-b Phish or HTML:Paypal-B [Phish] has already been resolved in an update, so you getting the detection now would be highly unusual. But you should not disregard it as a false positive immediately, as it could be something else.

Do you need to remove Paypal-b Phish?

AVG has said that they have analyzed the issue and declared it a false positive, so it’s likely nothing to worry about. Both Avast and AVG have already resolved this in an update, so Paypal-b Phish shouldn’t be detected now, thus there is no need to do anything to remove Paypal-b Phish. However, just to be on the safe side, scan your device with a different anti-malware program. Using a program with a different malware database than AVG and Avast would ensure that Paypal-b Phish is indeed a false positive and not something malicious on your computer.
