What is PsiXBot malware?

PsiXBot malware is a Trojan that targets Windows computers. It’s a serious computer infection because it can steal personal information, browser data and passwords. It can get into a computer using spam email attachments and exploit kits, which means users might not realize their computers are infected. PsiXBot malware does not show any obvious signs of being there, so unless users have anti-malware installed, they may not necessarily notice their data being stolen in the background. While inside a computer, the malware records data, extracts and logs passwords and records keystrokes. The data is sent to the crooks behind this malware, who then use the stolen data to access and hijack your accounts. If the malware manages to log data related to your banking or payment cards, crooks may be able to steal money.

PsiXBot malware, or also called PsiXBot virus, is detected by most of the popular anti-malware tools, so if you have one installed, it should be able to delete PsiXBot malware.

How did PsiXBot malware enter your computer

Malware like PsiXBot can use methods like spam email campaigns and exploit kits to infect a computer. Spam emails are perhaps the most common way users pick up malware. Cyber crooks attach infected files to somewhat legitimate emails and send them to email addresses they have bought from data breaches and leaks. The emails are oftentimes written quite poorly. They contain loads of grammar mistakes, are sent from random email addresses, strongly pressure users to open the attachments, and so on. Generally, it’s pretty easy to know when you’re dealing with malicious spam, unless the person sending the spam knows personal details about you and modifies the email using them. In order to avoid infecting your computer with malware, it’s highly recommended to scan unsolicited email attachments with anti-malware software before opening them.

Keep your operating system and your programs up-to-date, meaning you need to install updates regularly. Malware can misuse unpatched vulnerabilities to enter a computer unnoticed, which is why updates are so important. It would be best to enable automatic updates wherever possible.

You should also avoid downloading pirated content or software cracks, as they are often used to distribute malware.

What does PsiXBot malware do exactly?

The PsiXBot virus is primarily meant to record and steal your data. It records your browser information, logins and passwords, steals passwords from Outlook, and records keystrokes. The collected data is then sent to crooks behind the malware, who use it to take over accounts, steal money, and further spread the infection. It’s also possible that they could manage to get into your bank accounts and steal money. Furthermore, in order to make it difficult for users to close the process permanently, the malware re-runs every 60 seconds.

The malware seems to be distributed by Russian cyber crooks because when it infects a computer, PsiXBot checks whether system locale is Russian, and if it is, it terminates itself.

PsiXBot malware removal

It’s strongly recommended to use anti-malware software to remove PsiXBot malware from the computer. If you try to uninstall PsiXBot malware manually, you might end up missing something, allowing the malware to recover.
