About RevContent

RevContent is a legitimate advertising service that is used by website publishers in order to generate revenue. As you browser the Internet, you might notice ads sponsored by RevContent, and that’s completely normal. Ads by RevContent will appear on all kinds of legitimate websites, usually near the bottom of the page, where those articles “From the Web” appear. They are safe to click on, though those articles are usually clickbait. If you are constantly seeing ads by RevContent, it’s the site where you see the ads that is to blame, as it’s hosting a lot of ads. Generally, the ads won’t be aggressive, so you probably won’t even notice them the majority of the time.

An excessive amount of ads may be a sign of adware on your device. It does not have anything to do with RevContent, but adware may be injecting ads on web pages you visit without the publisher’s permission in order to make revenue. Adware is generally very noticeable due to the amount of ads you encounter, so if you have it, you will know. Ads will start appearing on sites where they didn’t before, you’ll get random redirects and pop-ups. Fortunately, adware is not a malicious infection, and is more annoying than harmful. Nevertheless, while you have adware, it’s best if you avoid interacting with any of the ads. Adware generated ones can expose you to unsecure content and lead to malicious or scam websites.

If you do have adware, you probably picked it up when installing freeware. The adware may have been attached to some free program you were installing, and you did not notice. If the attached item goes unnoticed, it is allowed to install alongside the program. You won’t be able to remove RevContent ads, as they are hosted by the website. However, if you have adware, you will need to get rid of it.

How does adware install?

Adware generally install via the bundling method. Essentially, adware, among other infections like browser hijackers, comes attached to popular freeware programs. Those attached offers are permitted to install alongside freeware, unless users manually prevent them from doing so. In order to prevent these unwanted installations, you need to pay attention to how you install programs. The most important thing is to choose Advanced (Custom) settings during installation. Those settings will make all added offers visible, as they will be hidden in Default settings. Once you see the list of what has been added, all you need to do is uncheck the boxes of those items. You may then continue installing the program.

Since a lot of popular free programs come with added offers (adware, browser hijackers, fraudulent security programs and other potentially unwanted programs), you should always opt for Advanced settings and deselect the offers.

Avoid clicking on ads

Ads by RevContent will appear on all kinds of sites you visit, as it is a popular advertising service that allows site publishers to make revenue. For example, if you’re reading a news article, at the bottom you may see “Sponsored by RevContent” articles. They are usually clickbait ones but are safe to engage with. You can try using ad block to block the ads but there really is no reason to do that as the ads are not intrusive.

However, if you notice that its ads are appearing on sites that did not have ads before, you may have adware installed on your computer. The adware could affect all popular browsers you have installed, whether it’s Internet Explorer, Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox, so it does not really matter which browser you are using. Ads generated by adware are not always secure so be careful about which you engage with. Otherwise, you could be led to some kind of scam or malware.

Be careful of ads that ask you to download something, or warn that you need to scan your computer because you have malware. Ads of this kind are known to spread malware. Never download programs, updates or anything really from unreliable websites. Instead, opt for legitimate/official sites/stores. Even then, be careful about what you download. Some ads might warn you about a supposed malware infection on your computer, and advise that you either install the offered software or call the provided number. The offered software would be some kind of questionable program or malware, and the phone number would connect to professional scammers pretending to be tech-support. Keep in mind that only your anti-malware program will display legitimate malware warnings.

RevContent removal

You cannot delete RevContent as it’s not actually on your computer. Its ads are hosted on sites that want to make revenue, so there’s nothing you can do about it. However, there is no reason why you should do anything, as its shown ads are not aggressive or intrusive. However, if you are dealing with adware, you will need to get rid of it. Quick Menu

Step 1. Uninstall RevContent and related programs.

Remove RevContent from Windows 8

Right-click in the lower left corner of the screen. Once Quick Access Menu shows up, select Control Panel choose Programs and Features and select to Uninstall a software.

Uninstall RevContent from Windows 7

Click Start → Control Panel → Programs and Features → Uninstall a program.

Delete RevContent from Windows XP

Click Start → Settings → Control Panel. Locate and click → Add or Remove Programs.

Remove RevContent from Mac OS X

Click Go button at the top left of the screen and select Applications. Select applications folder and look for RevContent or any other suspicious software. Now right click on every of such entries and select Move to Trash, then right click the Trash icon and select Empty Trash.

Step 2. Delete RevContent from your browsers

• Internet Explorer
• Chrome
• Firefox
• Safari

Terminate the unwanted extensions from Internet Explorer

1. Tap the Gear icon and go to Manage Add-ons.
2. Pick Toolbars and Extensions and eliminate all suspicious entries (other than Microsoft, Yahoo, Google, Oracle or Adobe)
3. Leave the window.

Change Internet Explorer homepage if it was changed by virus:

1. Tap the gear icon (menu) on the top right corner of your browser and click Internet Options.
2. In General Tab remove malicious URL and enter preferable domain name. Press Apply to save changes.

Reset your browser

1. Click the Gear icon and move to Internet Options.
2. Open the Advanced tab and press Reset.
3. Choose Delete personal settings and pick Reset one more time.
4. Tap Close and leave your browser.
5. If you were unable to reset your browsers, employ a reputable anti-malware and scan your entire computer with it.

Erase RevContent from Google Chrome

1. Access menu (top right corner of the window) and pick Settings.
2. Choose Extensions.
3. Eliminate the suspicious extensions from the list by clicking the Trash bin next to them.
4. If you are unsure which extensions to remove, you can disable them temporarily.

Reset Google Chrome homepage and default search engine if it was hijacker by virus

1. Press on menu icon and click Settings.
2. Look for the “Open a specific page” or “Set Pages” under “On start up” option and click on Set pages.
3. In another window remove malicious search sites and enter the one that you want to use as your homepage.
4. Under the Search section choose Manage Search engines. When in Search Engines..., remove malicious search websites. You should leave only Google or your preferred search name.
   

Reset your browser

1. If the browser still does not work the way you prefer, you can reset its settings.
2. Open menu and navigate to Settings.
3. Press Reset button at the end of the page.
4. Tap Reset button one more time in the confirmation box.
5. If you cannot reset the settings, purchase a legitimate anti-malware and scan your PC.

Remove RevContent from Mozilla Firefox

1. In the top right corner of the screen, press menu and choose Add-ons (or tap Ctrl+Shift+A simultaneously).
2. Move to Extensions and Add-ons list and uninstall all suspicious and unknown entries.

Change Mozilla Firefox homepage if it was changed by virus:

1. Tap on the menu (top right corner), choose Options.
2. On General tab delete malicious URL and enter preferable website or click Restore to default.
3. Press OK to save these changes.

Reset your browser

1. Open the menu and tap Help button.
2. Select Troubleshooting Information.
3. Press Refresh Firefox.
4. In the confirmation box, click Refresh Firefox once more.
5. If you are unable to reset Mozilla Firefox, scan your entire computer with a trustworthy anti-malware.

Uninstall RevContent from Safari (Mac OS X)

1. Access the menu.
2. Pick Preferences.
3. Go to the Extensions Tab.
4. Tap the Uninstall button next to the undesirable RevContent and get rid of all the other unknown entries as well. If you are unsure whether the extension is reliable or not, simply uncheck the Enable box in order to disable it temporarily.
5. Restart Safari.

Reset your browser

1. Tap the menu icon and choose Reset Safari.
2. Pick the options which you want to reset (often all of them are preselected) and press Reset.
3. If you cannot reset the browser, scan your whole PC with an authentic malware removal software.
