About this infection

Seachlog.com is browser hijacker promoted site that you could have picked up when you were installing freeware. The site will be set as your homepage, new tabs and search engine so you will quickly know which hijacker has taken over your browser. It’s a highly dubious site for a couple of reasons, and they will be explained in this report.

Seachlog

You might not be familiar with what a hijacker does, and we will explain everything you need to know. Hijackers aim to redirect users to sponsored sites because more traffic for a site means more revenue. They do not provide any useful features and are more annoying than anything. They are not considered to be malicious but you should know that they can lead to malicious sites, and thus to a malware infection. You should delete Seachlog.com as soon as possible.

Why remove Seachlog.com?

Since users would not willingly install hijackers, they are added to freeware as extra offers. In order to be able to see them, you need to use Advanced or Custom settings during installation. Choose those settings, instead of Default, and you will be able to check if something has been added. If there indeed is something, you need to deselect it/them. All you need to do is uncheck the boxes, and you can then proceed to install the freeware. Do not allow any of the added items to install. Unless you want to be stuck having to uninstall Seachlog.com or similar.

As soon as you install the hijacker, it will make changes to your browser, and set its promoted site as your homepage, new tabs and search engine. The changes will affect all leading browsers, whether you are using Internet Explorer, Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox, and will be irreversible unless you first delete Seachlog.com. And we do not recommend using the promoted site as it may not be safe. For one, it does not have any Terms of Use or Privacy Policy. When a page does not provide those two things, it’s obvious that it should not be trusted because you have no way of knowing what kind of information is collected about you, how it is kept and who it is shared with. The search engine will be inserting sponsored content into the results so that you could be redirected. Like we said, those redirects are the whole reason a hijacker even exists. You should be careful not to be led to malicious sites where malware could waiting to infect someone. To protect your computer and your privacy, we suggest you remove Seachlog.com.
