About this infection
Search Window is a questionable extension, classified as adware. It may enter your computer unannounced, make certain changes to your browser, and fill your screen with ads. If you happen to encounter its ads, you need to be more careful about how you install programs because the adware was added to freeware as an extra offer. If that extra offer goes unnoticed, it will be able to install without you even noticing.

Adware itself is not a malicious infection but because it can expose you to many doubtful sites, it could lead to a malware infection. And even if the ads are not malicious, they are still annoying. They will pop-up constantly and interrupt your browsing. If you just delete Search Window, the ads will disappear.
How does adware spread?
This particular extension can be obtained from the official site thesearchwindow.com, but it can also be obtained via freeware bundles. It can be added to some kind of program as an extra offer, and to prevent its installation, you need to deselect it. This is not difficult to do, you just need to choose Advanced or Custom settings during installation, and uncheck the added offers. They will only become visible in Advanced or Custom settings so refrain from using Default. Whether you chose to install it or not, it would be best if you remove Search Window.
What does it do?
The extension (ID – iijhcaafnfokdjjdajmpapfillhgbmoi) has its own official site but there’s not much information about what it actually does. It claims to make your searches better but does not explain how it would do that. It’s a questionable extension, and we do not recommend obtaining it. And if you already have, delete Search Window. It will start generating adverts to fill your screen when you’re browsing the Internet because ads make money. They will appear in different forms, and pop up randomly. All browsers, including Internet Explorer, Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox will be affected so it does not really matter which browser you use. It will also make changes to your browser’s settings and set searchwindow-a.akamaihd.net as your homepage/new tabs. Engaging with the site is not recommended because it could lead to you being redirected. Clicking on the ads is also not something we suggest you do. Whether it’s promoting software, or inviting you to participate in a quiz, ignore it. Adware generated ads are unreliable so best to avoid them. Just delete Search Window, and everything should go back to normal.
