What exactly is this threat?

Secure Search Virus is a questionable browser extension that adds a dubious feature to your browser. It may be considered to be a browser hijacker due to its methods of infection and its functions. You might not even notice this infection at first as unlike most hijackers, it does not change your homepage. Instead, it adds a “secure search” field in your existing home website.

Secure Search Virus

All searches you perform will go through there from then on. Users obtain the infection via free software bundles, usually because they do not pay enough attention to how they install free software. Once the infection happens, it can be quite difficult to delete Secure Search Virus as not all anti-spyware software may be able to detect it. If you do find the hijacker on your system, we suggest you do not put up with it and remove Secure Search Virus.

What does the infection do?

Unfortunately, you allowed the infection to enter yourself. However, the good news is that you can easily prevent future infections of this kind. Since hijackers, adware and other kinds of potentially unwanted programs are attached to free software, all you need to do to avoid infection is deselect them. This can done in Advanced or Custom settings of the freeware installation process. Unlike, Default, those settings will show you everything that has been added to program and if you do not want any extra offers, you will be allowed to deselect them. If you go with Default, you will not know of anything attached and it/they will be allowed to install. If you want to avoid having to uninstall Secure Search Virus or similar again, make sure to always use Advanced.

The hijacker seems to mainly affect the Google Chrome browser. It changes its settings, adds a “secure search” bar in your homepage and does not allow you to alter the settings back. These setting modifications will be irreversible unless you delete Secure Search Virus. Users report that if they try to perform a search via some search engine, the hijacker will take over the search and give you weird results. Some of them will be advertisements so avoid clicking on them. You should try to avoid any ad results because they will not give you any relevant information, they will just lead you to sponsored sites that aim to make money by using you. Some could even be malicious and you could end up with some kind of malware by mistake. Do not ignore the issue and concentrate on the problem at hand, which is Secure Search Virus removal.

Secure Search Virus removal

We would suggest that you use anti-spyware software to remove Secure Search Virus but not all programs may detect it. Look into what security software does and then employ it to uninstall Secure Search Virus. You can also try the manual way but that may take more time.
