What is this virus?
Snapchat virus refers to fraudulent Snapchat apps and malicious activity on the app itself. Popular social media networks and apps often become targets of various scammers and hackers as many people use them and this creates a great platform to spread malware. Those links generally come with messages like “Check out this video”, “I just found this video of you” or “Is this you”, and commonly include the name of the recipient. Never click on such links before you know what they are. Ask the person who sent it to you to confirm that the link is secure, and only when you get a response should you open it.
If you were to click on an infected link, you’d often be taken to a website that asks you to download some kind of software, which is the last thing you should do. Never download anything when you are redirected because you’ll likely end up with malware. If you need a program, use legitimate sources/sites/shops.
A lot of users also install questionable Snapchat apps themselves from third-party app stores or sometimes even Google Play. While Google Play is certainly much safer than unregulated stores, it’s not 100% secure as suspicious apps still slip past all the security. This is why you should be careful about what apps you install. Even if they have thousands of downloads and good reviews, that does not mean they are safe as those things can easily be faked. A malicious Snapchat app could end up stealing your account passwords and spy on you, so be careful.
