Adware may manage to set up onto the machine without you even noticing, via free applications. These undesirable set ups are so common because not everyone knows free programs comes along with with unwanted offers. Such as adware, browser hijackers and other potentially unwanted applications (PUPs). Default mode will not tell you of anything being attached, and items will install without you even noticing.
