Secure Chrome PRO is a questionable browser extension and a potentially unwanted program (PUP). It’s advertised as a security add-on that will help secure Google Chrome from various online threats. If you were to enter a suspicious website, the extension would supposedly warn you about it, which, while seems useful, is also what most reliable anti-malware software offer as well. And proper security programs wouldn’t change your browser’s settings, like this PUP does. It will alter your homepage/new tabs so that you are forced to use a questionable search engine, and the PUP can redirect you to sponsored websites. Site owners often employ such programs to redirect traffic to their sites, which earns them revenue. Not all of those websites will be safe, however, and you could accidentally be led to a dangerous one, where you could pick up malware. This is not a reliable extension to have installed, so we would recommend you delete Secure Chrome PRO.

The extension is promoted via bogus advertisements that claim your computer could be in danger and that you should install a security extension. Those ads may appear randomly, as you browse dubious websites. You might have also obtained the extension via some free program. If you are a security cautious user, you will notice that the site lacks Terms of Use and Privacy Policy, which are two essential forms to have as they provide the user information about what kind of information is collected, how it’s stored and whether it’s shared. When the site doesn’t have them, we don’t recommend using it. For all you know, this website could be collecting your personal information and later sharing it with dubious third-parties.

How does it spread?

You probably picked up the PUP when installing some kind of program. They are attached to certain free programs as additional offers, and you need to deselect them during installation. Otherwise, they will install. You should pay attention to how you install programs and make sure to use Advanced or Custom settings, if available. Those settings will make added offers visible, and you will be able to deselect all of them. Default, on the other hand, will not give you that option, which is why it’s recommended to not use them whenever possible. After you have deselected all offers, you can continue installing the program. It takes mere seconds to uncheck a couple of boxes, and it would take much longer to later get rid of the infection acquired this way.

Quick Menu

Step 1. Uninstall Secure Chrome PRO and related programs.

Remove Secure Chrome PRO from Windows 8

Right-click in the lower left corner of the screen. Once Quick Access Menu shows up, select Control Panel choose Programs and Features and select to Uninstall a software.

Uninstall Secure Chrome PRO from Windows 7

Click Start → Control Panel → Programs and Features → Uninstall a program.

Delete Secure Chrome PRO from Windows XP

Click Start → Settings → Control Panel. Locate and click → Add or Remove Programs.

Remove Secure Chrome PRO from Mac OS X

Click Go button at the top left of the screen and select Applications. Select applications folder and look for Secure Chrome PRO or any other suspicious software. Now right click on every of such entries and select Move to Trash, then right click the Trash icon and select Empty Trash.

Erase Secure Chrome PRO from Google Chrome

1. Access menu (top right corner of the window) and pick Settings.
2. Choose Extensions.

Remove Secure Chrome PRO from Mozilla Firefox

1. In the top right corner of the screen, press menu and choose Add-ons (or tap Ctrl+Shift+A simultaneously).
2. Move to Extensions and Add-ons list and uninstall all suspicious and unknown entries.

Change Mozilla Firefox homepage if it was changed by virus:

1. Tap on the menu (top right corner), choose Options.
2. On General tab delete malicious URL and enter preferable website or click Restore to default.
3. Press OK to save these changes.

Reset your browser

1. Open the menu and tap Help button.
2. Select Troubleshooting Information.
3. Press Refresh Firefox.
4. In the confirmation box, click Refresh Firefox once more.
5. If you are unable to reset Mozilla Firefox, scan your entire computer with a trustworthy anti-malware.

Uninstall Secure Chrome PRO from Safari (Mac OS X)

1. Access the menu.
2. Pick Preferences.
3. Go to the Extensions Tab.
