What is SmartCheck

SmartCheck aims to expose you to as many advertisements as possible because it is adware’s primary intention. Adware isn’t exactly a dangerous infection, compared to what else is out there. Adware could be really annoying but it is not particularly dangerous. Dubious pop-ups, increased number of ads, and redirects to questionable websites are the most noticeable symptoms pointing to an adware infection. The adware itself may not be damaging to your PC but the advertisements that it generates can expose you to content that might be damaging for your computer. Since the ads aren’t regulated, they might be promoting all types of suspicious things, such as fake giveaways, malicious software, and tech-support scams.

The bundling method is generally how adware infects a PC. Adware, as well as other infections, comes together with freeware as an extra offer which allows it to install alongside. Because many users are not aware of them being there, they end up accidentally allowing them to install, even if the offers are not mandatory. If you carry on reading, we will explain how to avoid installing these nonessential offers.

Adware is distributed through software bundling

Adware is installed via a method known as software bundling because users would not install it otherwise. Through this method, users install adware accidentally, as it comes adjoined to popular free programs as an additional offer. Everything adjoined is preselected to install alongside by default and concealed from users, despite the offers being optional, which makes this a rather questionable method of installation. Many users miss those offers during free software installation because they aren’t paying enough attention.

It shouldn’t be hard to prevent the undesirable installations, as long as you are attentive when installing free software. The most critical part is selecting Advanced (Custom) settings instead of Default when given the option. Those settings will display all adjoined offers, and you’ll have the choice of deselecting them.

What does adware do

The infection is not especially dangerous because it shouldn’t directly damage your system, but it isn’t totally harmless. When you browse using major browsers like Internet Explorer, Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox, ads will start appearing in much bigger amounts because browsers will be infected by the adware. Since advertisements generated by adware aren’t safe, we highly suggest you avoid pressing on any while adware remains installed. Certain advertisements you should lookout for the most. Such adverts attempt to trick you into installing fake updates, declare that your computer has an infection and you should call tech-support, or you’ve been selected to participate in a giveaway. Tech-support scams intend to get your money, bogus updates commonly lead to malware infections, and fake giveaways want to steal your personal data.

Anti-virus software like Avast, Kaspersky, Symantec, Malwarebytes, and AVG detect the adware as SmartCheck. Having anti-virus software erase SmartCheck would be best.

SmartCheck deletion

If you have little experience with systems, using virus removal software for SmartCheck deletion may be best. You could attempt to eliminate SmartCheck manually but adware could recover if any leftover files remain.
