What is Totmania.net

Totmania.net is a highly questionable website that is often included in spam messages, primarily directed at iPhone users. iPhone users may sometimes receive messages claiming that they should share the message with other people and then click on the provided Totmania.net link. It’s essentially an advertising campaign to redirect users to sponsored content. Totmania.net is not a safe site to visit so users should not click on the link if they receive a message with a link to it.

Totmania

In general, users should not click on any links in messages.

This is weird but try it

I’m going to send you a link that they just sent me. DON’T open it until you send it to 10 people. then open it and you will see the person that loves you the most. But first you have to send it to 10 friends, if you don’t, nothing will show up: It’s weird.

Who was ur person?

iPhone users have been receiving the above and similar messages for some years now. The contents of the messages may differ to some extent but they are all more or less the same. These types of messages are nothing new, they have been going around social media in particular for many years. Because they are spread by users themselves to their friends and contacts, users are more likely to click on the links because they trust the sender. Many users refer to these messages are viruses but such a classification would not technically be correct. The messages are more like a spam campaign. These scams tend to spread quite widely because users do forward such messages, allowing scammers to generate significant revenue from all the clicks the links are getting.

Interacting with sites like Totmania.net can be dangerous because it could lead to phished personal/financial information, as well as financial loss. The site may try to phish personal information by displaying giveaway scams. Users may see an alert that claims they have won some kind of prize and have to provide their personal information to redeem it. In most cases, users would be asked to provide their full names, phone numbers, home addresses, and email addresses. This information is a hot commodity and once obtained, it would be sold on various hacker forums for other cybercriminals to be used in other malicious campaigns. There isn’t a lot that users can do once their information has been phished, though they can at least be more cautious of unsolicited contact.

Sites like Totmania.net may also display tech-support scams that either ask users to install questionable apps or call fake tech support numbers. These scams show users fake alerts that claim their devices have been infected with viruses that are actively harming the device and stealing files/information. If users call the phone number shown in one of these alerts, they would be connected to professional scammers who would claim they can remove the infection(s). If users fall for this, they would be asked to pay hundreds of dollars for the services they didn’t need nor actually received. It’s all an elaborate scam to trick users into paying for fake services.

In case it has not been made clear, users should never interact with messages that have links, such as the one displayed above. Logically, such messages do not even make sense but users often interact with them just to see what happens. We strongly recommend against interacting with any of these messages because users could be exposed to highly questionable content without them even knowing.

Totmania.net removal

If users have clicked on a link in a message and were redirected to Totmania.net, nothing likely happened. The site primarily hosts advertisements and sponsored content but users may also be exposed to potentially dangerous ads as well. But as long as users did not interact with anything on the site, they should be safe.
