What is ViperSoftX RAT

ViperSoftX RAT is a remote access trojan (RAT), first detected in 2019. It’s primarily a cryptocurrency stealer. It essentially redirects cryptocurrency transactions you make to the wallets that belongs to the malicious actors operating the trojan. It does that by replacing the wallet addresses with another one in clipboard data when you’re making a transaction. While it primarily is a cryptocurrency stealer, operators can also use it to download and initiate malware on an infected computer, such as ransomware. ViperSoftX RAT

The trojan shouldn’t be an issue if you have anti-virus software installed, as it would immediately detect and remove ViperSoftX RAT. However, without a security tool, even noticing the malware could be difficult. It doesn’t actually display any particularly noticeable symptoms, which is why it may be difficult to notice without help from anti-virus.

How does the trojan infect a computer?

Infections like ViperSoftX RAT use the classic spread methods, which include spam emails and pirated content. Malicious ads and fake updates could also lead to an infection. In many cases, bad browsing habits are one of the main reasons why users pick up malware.

If you are in the habit of pirating copyrighted content, you have a high chance of picking a malware infection. Malicious actors are well aware of the potential pirating platforms have when it comes to distributing malware. For example, a lot of torrent sites are poorly regulated, which allows cyber crooks to easily put malware into torrents for popular movies, TV shows, games, software, etc. Pirating copyrighted content is not only stealing but it’s also potentially harmful, which is why we strongly encourage you abstain yourself from pirating.

Spam email is also a very common way users pick up malware. If your email address has ever been leaked or part of a data breach, malicious emails probably land in your inbox on a regular basis. Cyber crooks buy leaked email addresses from hacker forums, and then use them to launch spam email campaigns. The emails are usually fairly obvious, riddled with grammar and spelling mistakes. They’re also sent from random-looking email addresses, so it’s usually easy to identify them, provided you pay attention. The malicious emails are safe as long as you don’t open the attached files. If you were to open the file, the malware would initiate on your computer. As a precaution, we suggest you always scan unsolicited email attachments with anti-virus or VirusTotal before opening them.

Lastly, we strongly suggest you enable automatic updates when possible. Updates patch known vulnerabilities which can be used by malware to enter the system.

What does ViperSoftX RAT do?

ViperSoftX is a remote access trojan (RAT). RAT are a type of malware that will allow its operators remote access to the infected computer. RAT malware come with a variety of malicious features, which can include stealing login credentials and other sensitive information, allowing other malware to get in, etc. However, ViperSoftX RAT is primarily a cryptocurrency stealer, though it can also allow other malware to enter.

If anti-virus software is not protecting the computer, noticing the trojan can be difficult as it uses techniques to conceal its presence and make it more difficult to notice. In the meantime, whenever you try to make a cryptocurrency transaction, the trojan will change the receiver’s wallet address into one that belongs to its operators. If users don’t double-check the information, the cryptocurrency would be sent to cyber crooks’ wallet address.

In addition to that, the trojan can execute files. This means that it could download and initiate malware. It could allow all kinds of malware to infiltrate the computer, even severe infections like ransomware.
