What is CyberSplitter 2.0?

CyberSplitter 2.0 is a more complex version of the Cyber SpLiTTer Vbs ransomware. You probably have not heard of the original ransomware as it was not large scale and it did not encrypt files. But it seems that CyberSplitter 2.0  developers have become more advanced in computers and have now released an updated version of the virus and, unfortunately, it does encrypt your files.

CyberSplitter 2.0

CyberSplitter 2.0 will demand that you pay if you want to get your files back, and we don’t suggest you do. There have been quite a few cases where ransomware developers did not decrypt files even after victims have paid. There is no guarantee that CyberSplitter 2.0 developers will not do the same. This is why it’s so important that you have backup. If you have backup already, you can access your files. However, make sure that you delete CyberSplitter 2.0 from your computer first.

What does CyberSplitter 2.0 do?

In case you haven’t realized yet, you got infected with CyberSplitter 2.0 when you opened a malicious email attachment. There are many ways for ransomware to spread but spam email remains the most popular one. Be very cautious when opening emails from senders you do not know. Even if the email looks perfectly legitimate at first glance, you need to make sure it’s safe before you open the attachment. Look out for grammatical mistakes and encouragement to open the attachment. You might also get CyberSplitter 2.0 if you download fake software updates or use Torrents. Use only legitimate websites to download/update software. And refrain from using Torrents. If you must, then at least make sure you are downloading safe content.

Once CyberSplitter 2.0 gets on your computer, it will use AES-128 encryption algorithm to make your files unreadable. All affected files will have the .cyber splitter vbs file extension. When the encryption process is complete, a ransom note will be launched. It will explain that your files have been encrypted and that you need to pay 1 Bitcoin (around $780) to get them back. Unfortunately, currently there is no way to decrypt the files without the decryption key. But malware researchers are sometimes able to create free decryption tools so we suggest you wait. If you thinking of paying, we don’t think you should. Like we said before, paying does not always lead to file decryption. And 1 Bitcoin is a lot of money. If you pay, you’ll be basically supporting their future ransomware projects. Think carefully if your files are worth that much money. Instead of paying, you should remove CyberSplitter 2.0 from your computer.
