LOCKME Ransomware is a file-encrypting type of malware that will lock your files and will not allow you access to them until you pay a ransom. There are multiple ways you could have picked up the infection, such as via infected email attachments, malicious ads or downloads from unreliable sources. What happened to your files?

Once you allow the ransomware to enter your computer, it will begin encrypting your files. You will likely have all your important ones locked, and a .lockme file extension added. The ransomware will then drop a ransom note which will explain what has happened to your files. It suggests you buy the decryption tool for 0.03 Bitcoin, which equals to around $230 at the time of writing. After the payment has been made, the victim is asked to contact the crook via the provided email addresses, LockMecQqL3Ruyi7V0RfZ@tutamail.com or LockMe9hG1F7pbWqThUt9P8@mailfence.com. Supposedly, once the payment has been confirmed, the victim would be sent a decryptor. Like we have mentioned above, we do not recommend complying with the demands. For one, you are dealing with cyber criminals, who could just take your money and not recover files. There is nothing stopping them from doing that, as they have no obligation to help you. It should also be mentioned that the ransomware business in very profitable, thus attracts more and more crooks. By paying, you would be supporting ransomware creators and their future creations. We would suggest investing that money into reliable backup instead of complying with the demands. Next time this happens, and you have backup, you won’t have to worry about losing your files because you could just recover them from backup.

How does ransomware spread?

Sources, such as Torrents, could be hosting ransomware, so avoid them.
