About this ransomware

Ransomnix is a ransomware type of malware that targets websites. If it manages to gain access to remote systems and run the ransomware, your website will be unusable and will display a ransom note that will ask you to pay a ransom. If you do, you would supposedly be provided with a decryption program that would recover everything.

725 Ransomware

These kinds of ransomware are less common than those encrypting personal files but are still quite dangerous. It is not recommended to pay the ransom as it’s doubtful you would get your files back. You are dealing with cyber crooks after all. Just ignore the note, and recover files from backup. It’s worth scanning your computer for ransomware, and if it detects this threat, remove Ransomnix ransomware virus.

How did you get infected?

There are a couple of ways you could have gotten infected. Third-party programs that have access to your data could have been compromised and that led to the infection. You need to review those programs and act accordingly. Generally, the ransomware infections that target personal files are spread using malicious email attachments and fake downloads. This is why users are always warned to not open every single email attachment they get, unless they make sure it’s safe. Even when it seems like a legitimate company or a government organization is sending the email, users need to stay careful. Downloads from unsafe sources are also a great way for ransomware to spread. You should only use secure sources, such as official sites or shops, for downloads.

What does it do?

When it manages to run the ransomware on the server, it will encrypt certain files. They will all have the .Crypt extension added to them. After the encryption process is complete, your website will not operate properly. Instead of the usual contents, it will display a ransom note that asks for payment. The note explains that your database files have been encrypted and that you need to pay 1 Bitcoin. In the note, it says that 1 Bitcoin was $2860 but now, one is worth $4350, almost twice as much. In any case, it’s not recommended to pay the ransom as you could end up losing your money. Do not believe ransomware developers when they say that they will recover your files. There is nothing forcing them to do that so rethink payment. Instead, recover files from backup. Do check your computer with anti-malware software and make sure to delete Ransomnix ransomware virus.
