What is CHIP virus?

CHIP virus is a ransomware type of virus that can cause serious damage to your computer. It seems to infect computer via Rig Exploit Kit, but it might be able to corrupt computers via malicious email attachments, fake software updates and peer-to-peer networks (Torrents). If you have never heard of ransomware, you’re in for a nasty surprise. What CHIP virus will do is, encrypt your files and then demand money if you want them back. It’s not yet known how much money CHIP virus wants but whatever the amount is, we do not suggest you pay. When dealing with ransomware, it’s important to remember that the developers are criminals. They already encrypted your files, what’s stopping them from just taking your money and not sending anything in return. What we do suggest is to delete CHIP virus without mercy.

Why is CHIP virus so dangerous?

CHIP virus uses Rig Exploit Kit to infect computers. What happens is it identifies software vulnerabilities on your computer and then used them to execute CHIP virus. Besides this, it can also infect your computer using spam emails, fake software updates and Torrents. Ransomware developers attach an infected file to an email and send it to many unsuspecting users. When you open the attachment, CHIP virus downloads onto your computer and starts to encrypt your files. Never open spam emails from unknown senders. Look out for signs that it’s ransomware, such as grammatical mistakes in the email and pressure to open the attachment. Also, only download software updates from official websites and not random pop-ups or dubious websites. And if you insist on using Torrents, at least make sure you are downloading safe content.

Once it downloads onto your computer, it uses complex encryption algorithms to encrypt your files. Two keys are created, a private and a public one. The public one is used to encrypt your files and the private is used to decrypt. Unfortunately, the private key is stored on a remote server that only the developers have access to. When the encryption process is complete, a ransom note will appear and the hackers will try to sell you the decryption key. It’s not known how much money they want as you are supposed to email them and they will give you all the information. Do not email them. Whatever the amount is, you will only be supporting their future projects. Paying does not guarantee file decryption and you should not depend on the criminals’ conscience. Just remove CHIP virus and wait for malware researchers to develop a decryption tool.
