About this program

GeoSmartDNS is adware, advertised as a program that allows one to bypass geographical restrictions for certain content. While it certainly seems like a useful program to have, the ads that it shows are not worth it. Adware is not classified as malicious, per se, but it’s certainly not recommended to keep it installed. GeoSmartDNS

In order to make revenue, it will constantly expose you to ads, and its generated ones could expose you to unreliable or even malicious content, so even if adware is not malicious itself, it’s ads could be. Thus, it would be suggested that you remove GeoSmartDNS as soon as possible. It could also be the case that you did not install it yourself, and it came via freeware bundles. This method is often used by such infections because otherwise they would not be installed by anyone. If you continue reading, we will explain what you need to do to avoid installing junk onto your device.

Adware spread methods

Adware spreads via freeware bundles. It’s attached to freeware programs as an extra offer, which you need to deselect. This is easily done if you just pay attention to how you install programs. All you really need to do is choose Advanced (Custom) settings during freeware installation and deselect the offers. They will only be visible in Advanced (Custom) settings, so opt for those when given the option. Default, on the other hand, will hide all the offers and allow them to install alongside without you even noticing. You might want to deselect the offers with every program you install. Most freeware spread adware, browser hijackers and such, so unless you want your computer filled with junk, do not let questionable programs install. And perhaps picking better sources for your downloads is also a good idea.

Why should you delete GeoSmartDNS?

The program is supposed to allow you to bypass geo restriction, and while it may do that, it’s not worth the hassle it creates. Ads will start appearing on your screen as you browse, no matter which browser you may be using (Internet Explorer, Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox). They will continue appearing as long as you have the adware installed. Interacting with them is not suggested because you could end up exposed to scams or malware. Adware generated adverts often display scams that aim to trick users into revealing personal information. For example, you could get a pop-up claiming you have won something. In order to get the prize, you would be asked to put in your personal information, only to later find out that you haven’t won anything and are now getting scam phone calls and emails.

You could also encounter ads warning you about supposed malware infections on your computer. A pop-up would appear on your screen with a warning that malware is currently on your computer and it’s stealing your data. Supposedly, in order to stop the malware, you need to call the provided number. Professionals scammers, pretending to be technical support, would try to convince you that your device is critically infected and that they can fix everything. For a price, of course. Those kinds of warnings are bogus, so there is no need to call anyone. You would simply need to get rid of the adware causing the ads.

GeoSmartDNS removal

It would be easiest to use anti-spyware software to uninstall GeoSmartDNS because the program would do everything for you. However, if you would prefer to do it yourself, manual elimination is also possible. You can use the below provided instructions to help you. You will know whether you have successfully gotten rid of the adware if the ads no longer appear. If they continue to bother you, you might have missed something and the adware was able to recover.
