What is ProposalCrypt?

ProposalCrypt is file encrypting ransomware. These days it seems that ransomware is appearing left and right. Some incredibly dangerous, some rather basic. As usual with ransomware, you can infect your computer with ProposalCrypt if you carelessly open malicious email attachments. When it downloads onto your computer, it will encrypt your files and then ask that you pay if you want to restore your files. The things with ransomware is that the developers are criminals. And there is nothing stopping them from taking your money and leaving your files undecrypted. Do not trust such crooks with keeping true to their word. Instead, you should delete ProposalCrypt, and not allow developers to earn even a dime from you.

What does ProposalCrypt do?

Not surprisingly, ProposalCrypt spreads via spam email. It seems ProposalCrypt developers are not capable of creating new ways to distribute ransomware, and we suppose that is a good thing. Unfortunately, many users still fall for these tricks, even after so many years of warnings. All you have to do to get infected is open an infected file attached to an email. Those emails looks perfectly legitimate at first glance but you should never open email attachments sent by unknown senders. Especially, if those emails end up in the spam folder. Always, and we mean always, double check the sender and the contents to make sure that what you are opening is safe. Infecting your computer with ransomware can have disastrous consequences.

As soon as ProposalCrypt enters your computer, it starts encrypting your files. It uses AES encryption algorithm to make your files unreadable. You will now be unable to open your documents, photos, music, etc. The victim will then notice the ransom message, which will state that the developers are ‘sorry’ to say that your file have become unreadable. They will also provide a way to get the files back, and that involves paying 1 Bitcoin (about $904 at the time of writing). Again, these are criminals, they will most likely not decrypt your files so you’re better off investing some of that money into reliable backup. If you had backup, ProposalCrypt would not be an issue. In any case, we suggest you do not pay any mind to these ridiculous demands and remove ProposalCrypt. And if you had backup prior to the ransomware infection, you can restore the files from there. But only after you delete ProposalCrypt. You should also look into weather there will be a free decryptor released by malware specialists. That happens sometimes, so file restoration is possible without paying.

ProposalCrypt removal

Having to remove ProposalCrypt manually can be quite difficult because it requires deep knowledge about computers. But you can employ a reliable anti-malware tool to take care of ProposalCrypt removal for you. It should be able to erase ProposalCrypt without issue. And after it is gone from your computer, you can restore the files from backup.
