About Venis Locker Virus

Venis Locker Virus is a new ransomware to add to the already long list of nasty viruses. If you find that you files have been encrypted with this ransomware, you must have opened a spam email recently and that’s how you got infected. The decryption key the hackers created is stored on a remote server and victims will be offered to buy it if they want to decrypt their files. They also threaten to release the victim’s private information if payment is not made. It’s not yet known how big the ransom is but whatever it is, we advise against paying because hackers rarely give the decryption key to victims. And if they do have access to your sensitive information, no one is going to stop them from releasing the data if they want to. Instead you should delete Venis Locker Virus.

How does Venis Locker Virus spread?

Although it may change in the future as Venis is still new, it seems to spread mostly via spam emails. Hackers like to pretend they are from official companies or government organization to pressure you into opening an infected email attachment. Always make sure that what you are opening is safe. If it causes even the slightest suspicion, you shouldn’t open it, or at least look into it before you open the attachment. If you do click on an infected attachment, the ransomware downloads onto your computer and starts the encryption process.

Why is Venis Locker Virus dangerous?

Venis ransomware encrypts files using the AES 2048 encryption algorithm. When the encryption process is complete, victims find a massage explaining what has occurred. The victim is informed that his/her files have been encrypted. Besides encrypting your files, it also claims to have collected your usernames, passwords, Facebook and Skype messages, as well as your browser history. The hackers threaten that if payment is not made, you will not only loose your files but the data about you will be released to the public. They do not state how much money they want but presumably, if you were to contact them using the email given, you would find out. Whatever the amount is, we don’t recommend paying because that does not guarantee that you will get your files back and that your data will not be released. If they actually have access to that data, that is. Unfortunately, since Venis is still very new, no decryption key has been developed by malware researchers. If you have backup, you need to remove Venis Locker Virus and only then restore your files.
